Guidelines to Volunteer as a Writer:

  • All money donated will be directly through the links provided. No money is to be accepted through your personal or business paypal/venmo/etc. Please only sign up if you understand that you as a writer will not receive any individual profit.

  • You must be able to complete drabbles/works/fics with a minimum of 1,000 words, at least 25 screen posts if you're doing socmed. (You can write more than that, of course, but we are striving to share a lot of small works without overwhelming our writers!)

  • Because drabbles/works/fics posted by our volunteers will not be moderated for content, you must be 18 years or above to participate as a writer.

  • Every milestone = Fics. For every $1,000 raised, the writers who have volunteered are expected and encouraged to post a drabble/work/fic. One-word prompts will be added to a sheet for you to peruse and use for inspiration if desired, but other than the 1k wordcount minimum, there are no restrictions. We really need commitment to keep raising funds, so please only sign up if you are willing to write at least five drabbles during this initiative.

  • All writers are welcome and encouraged to participate! This is not fandom specific and we would love to see everyone come together for this cause!

For Volunteers:

  • Fics on ao3, thread fics, social media aus, etc, are all allowed.

  • think of it like a bingo, except a square is = $1,000, and every time we reach a milestone, you post something in return!

  • use the hashtag #writers4relief when posting your work.

  • There will be an ao3 collection for posts and a twitter thread.

  • We will announce every $1,000 milestone, and then you have until the next one to post your work! (We will update the amounts once a day so you can see where we are at and plan)

  • We ask for at least 5 "submissions" from each writer because we understand that not everyone will be able to post for every single milestone, however, we do want to make sure every milestone will have submissions!

  • If you sign-up later and we have already passed a milestone, you must wait until the next milestone to post!

We will be focusing our donations towards the PCRF and the UNRWA, along with relief efforts for Sudan and the Congo, but we will also accept any donations of your choice to direct organizations such as: Operation Olive Branch, Care for Gaza, Pious Projects, GoFundMe, etc.

How it works:

  • To ensure all profits go directly where intended, all donations are to be made to the organizations themselves, DO NOT send payment to individual writers. Afterwards, you will present your proof of donation (a screenshot of the receipt without your personal information on it) via the donation form.

  • The donation form will allow for one-word prompts to be submitted so we can inspire the writers, but they are only suggestions. If writers want to share something else, they may!

  • You can donate as many times as you'd like/are able.

  • For every $1,000 raised, all current volunteer writers will present a drabble/work/fic of their choice using the prompts provided and/or via their own inspiration.

  • Our current goal is: $20,000 (Goal can and will continue to rise as long as we have volunteers!)

Writers for Relief is an independent collective of volunteer fiction writers who are coming together to raise donations for humanitarian aide in Palestine, Sudan, and The Congo.All drabbles/fics/works are written in response to donation efforts and are available to read for free!Additionally, there are many books and literary pieces about Palestine to support as well, so please check out the reading list!

❤ Question: How Long Will This Initiative Run?Answer: We are running this for June and July, but it does have the possibilty to extend as long as we have volunteers willing to write and people willing to donate! If you've already made a donation for June before we've opened the donation form, keep your receipt! We will add it to our totals.

❤ Question: How will different fandoms work?Answer: All posts you make in response to milestones will be on your own account! So, fandoms will not affect posting or anything. The idea is that your followers or fellow writers will see you posting words in response to donations and want to join, either by writing or donating!

❤ Question: Where do I post? How do I post? Is there an ao3 collection?Answer: You will post on your own from your own accounts using the hashtag! There will be an ao3 collection to add them to, and Writers4Relief will create a twitter thread for all other posts. Fics on ao3, thread fics, social media aus, etc, are all allowed.

❤ Question: Can the works posted be works that we are completing for fests?Answer: We would really like all works posted to be original to entice readers, but we understand that's not always available. We will not moderate this, but new works=excitement=more donations!
If you are posting for fests make sure they allow cross-posting! If you are using this to update old WIPS or chaptered fics, please make sure to notate that it's in support of this initiative!

❤ Question: What if I can't post for every milestone? Can I skip an update/milestone?Answer: We ask for at least 5 "submissions" from each writer because we understand that not everyone will be able to post for every single milestone, however, we do want to make sure every milestone will have submissions!
If you are unable to post for that milestone, it's okay! Share and hype the ones who do and jump onto the next one!

❤ Question: What are the maximum time period gap between posts?Answer: For this, volunteers will need to check the donation totals frequently (we will also send out notices) so they can gauge how long they have between posts. The idea is that for every milestone of $1,000, all volunteers who can will post their writing!
